Do You Suffer From Neck Pain?
“There has to be a better way to treat my neck”
But First You Have To Know The Cause of The Problems
Poor Posture
There are many reasons that cause poor posture. This usually happens when there is prolonged static contraction of your postural muscles from head to spine. (Your body can only sustain a certain amount of time to maintain optimal posture.) Eventually, as we age, our entire muscles start to weaken and easily get fatigued resulting in straining joints, muscles and ligaments.
Headaches Related to Tight Muscle
Working in a clinic I sustained an incredible amount of soreness, tightness and eventually pain around my head and neck areas. I believe that this was all related to constant lifting and possibly poor body mechanics from treating certain clients. My suggestion is to be more mindful of your body at the end of the day and address issues appropriately and immediately.
Poor Sleeping Habits
I am pretty sure there are a lot of studies that suggest poor sleeping patterns could be detrimental to your health. However not everyone is able to have consistent amount of sleep time. I do think this could be accomplished by having a routine such as reading a boring book or magazine, having certain teas with chamomile, lavender, lemon, honey or other ingredients related to initiating sleep. You can add meditation, prayers etc to this routine.
Dehydration
When you make a statement “I am not thirsty.” Believe me it is time to hydrate. I am pretty sure we have all heard that our body is composed of 70% – 80% water. Doesn’t it make sense to keep replenishing your body with precious fluid and electrolytes. I do believe that fluid can be from flavored water (if you don’t like regular water), tea, coffee, coconut water, fruit and other edible products. Please don’t include sodas, it is not considered an advisable fluid!
These are just some of the items that might have contributed to my neck problems. I also figured out that the pillows I was using were creating more problems instead of helping. I believe that if you pay attention to your ailments, at whatever age of your life, that there are some remedies that could help you.
Ways To Manage or Reduce Neck Problems
Therapeutic Intervention
There are so many therapeutic treatments out there. And that is a good thing, but it can be confusing. I would always suggest that if you have a medical ailment, the best thing to do is to talk to friends, family, neighbors, co workers, colleagues, etc. to get a reputable recommendations for a doctor, therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist and other professionals. The key is when a specific name comes up repeatedly, that someone, could be a good resource. It doesn’t hurt to google that name for additional information.
Cold and Heating Pad
If diamonds are a girls best friend. Then I would settle for these two items as man’s best friends. Everyone is always confused wether to use heat or cold. I always believe that for an acute inflammation due to minor strain, a cold pack should be used immediately for the next three or more days. Then I would suggest heat anytime after that. You could also do contrast bath where you alternately use heat and cold pack 4-5 times.
Topical Products
I have used so many in the past. I would strongly suggest not to combine it with heat or cold therapy as this could increase skin temperature and irritation. Topical products whether your using ointment, salve, roll on, or patches could be beneficial when applied right before you go to bed. I find good relief when applying it to locally to sore or pain areas.
There is no perfect treatment formula for every person having chronic neck problems. What works for me may not work for you. I find that you have to try different ways of managing your pain. The list that I have mentioned has worked for me. I have tried many pillows and devices and could not find the right one for me. However me and my partner have been working on a prototype for more than two years and finally we developed the HED-Nest™. If you are interested and need more information please visit HED-Nest.com
